After I Gave My Father’s Eulogy, Which Was a Poem I Wrote, A Poem by Chris Russell

you approached me

and said “You have

your father’s gift,”

referring to the talent

my father had for

reassuring and

motivating others

with language.

And you know,

this does feel a little

like a gift, I thought.

Like you finding me now,

a gift finds us

when we’re ready to

bury ourselves away

and tells us how special

we are.
