Asking for the Quarter-Life, A Poem by Chris Russell

You know how each day’s obsession

involved me trying to convince myself

that faith in poetry was all I needed

in order to be more?

How that if I could just produce

my own light in that abyss called a life,

I’d be able to stop seeing a quarter

as a raise? Because it’s a quarter? Well,

how do you think you learned that?
