Through a Wormhole to Where I’m Not Successful, A Poem by Chris Russell

I don’t know what you mean by

a successful poet,

and I know that

doesn’t answer your question.

It’s just that rather than

try to write poetry,

I like to travel back through

a wormhole of low self-esteem

to where I’m not successful.

I know that sounds

a little self-destructive

on the surface. And I think I am.

But, put another way,

I sometimes sort of run away

to a fast food place where I can get

a greasy as shit burger

and eat it, and somehow,

by the time I’m done

I’ve written something someone

else might call a spiritual poem.
